Education
includes parenting classes, early childhood education, and in today’s society, internet safety for children is also a concern. Education in the United States is mainly provided by the public sector with funding coming from three levels: federal, state and local. There are approximately 55 million elementary and secondary school children in the United States. Eight million of those children, or about 14%, are educated independent of state schools. Nearly 2 million are home schooled, and 6.5 million attend private schools. According to a report released by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2009, there are approximately 13.7 million single parents in the United States, and those parents are responsible for rearing 21.8 million children (approximately 26% of children under 21 in the U.S. today).
